Network Packer Broker Suite's Capabilities Enhanced Significantly
April 24, 2013
Known throughout the world as a network packet broker (NPB) provider that takes a revolutionary approach to enhancing the level of visibility in every action taking place within a corporate infrastructure, today VSS Monitoring has some exciting news—it has just added some hefty new products to its portfolio including vBroker 100, vBroker 400, vInspector and vProtector in vBroker.
Founded in 2003, the NPB expert assists customers in multiple ways such as eliminating the need for costly tools, streamlining operations overall, reducing SPAN port challenges, load balancing traffic to specific tools, redirecting flows to appliances, and even storing traffic only once but allowing many employees to access it simultaneously.
The news released today by the business is related to the debut of these new solutions as well as the underlying theme of driving agility, reliability and resiliency in order to make a network much more secure. I recently had the chance to speak with Gordon Beith, director of Product Management; Leena Merciline, senior product manager; and Allan Linden, director of Marketing Programs and Communications.
Beith revealed, “What we are trying to do is address certain challenges that have yet not been overcome, that continue to be seen by enterprise service providers. While VSS Monitoring has always been about trying to do that, this news is related to expanding the current functionalities being seen today.” These obstacles range from not keeping up-to-date with new technological innovations, continuous network outages, increased cost of operations, cyber attacks, and the rising demands from rapid network growth.
It was only around nine months ago that the company initially launched the vBroker series and since that time, VSS Monitoring has been hard at work continuing to add key features to its portfolio.
Taking a closer look at the vBroker 100 Family which encompasses modular 1G network packet brokers, we can clearly see that its high level of flexibility that can be increased to either 1 or 2RU is helping to deploy applications in a much shorter time period. The vBroker 110 and the vBroker 120 powerful VSS base, packer optimization, and specific application feature sets.
Merciline commented, “With the debut of the vBroker Family, we are actually providing modularity for 1G networks. The unique capability added to this particular product set is the fact that it now includes a built- in software function that helps to prevent packet loss. This is especially important for organizations attempting to closely monitor video applications.”
Additionally, the vBroker 400 Family is highlighted for its high density and modularity. While the vBroker 410 is being promoted as the fastest 1U from VSS Monitoring, the vBroker 42 is being categorized as the fastest VSS 2U appliance currently in existence. Both of the next-generation products have packet optimization functions with application feature sets being released in the not-so-distant future. With these recent additions to this family of products, VSS Monitoring has really rounded out the vBroker product line to meet a variety of different network-sized requirements.
Zeroing in on the vInspector product set, vInspector SSL 100 has 1.5GPS and has eight fixed 1G ports, vInspector SSL 200 has 2Gbps and is a fully modular platform that can support either 10G or 1G fiber, and vInspector SS 300 has 4Gbps and is again modular with 10G and 1G copper or fiber alike that can be mixed within the chassis. Something all of these offerings have in common is that they can all be leveraged to significantly enhance visibility into encrypted traffic for passive and active monitoring.
Modularity is vital to businesses around the world as their networking environment and monitoring needs are ever changing. With a modular platform in hand, users can purchase what they need today but also have the option of purchasing more modules at a later date to meet their future needs.
Beith added, “This is a new thing for us that was fairly recently released, and it allows us to decrypt the traffic of a high number of sessions as well as open up a new level of visibility to users.”
Further, vProtector raises the bar on active inline brokering to every solution within the vBroker product set via one intuitive interface. It is extremely user-friendly and comes complete with 10G, 1G copper and fiber support.
“We have actually had this product series around for a couple of years now, which are a separate set of appliances that are ideal for inline active monitoring and other types of applications. However, now with the new vBroker series, we are allowing the vProtector functionality to be available on that same product series, so you can use it in multiple types of situations due to its flexibility.”
Be sure to stay closely tuned to the Network Packet Broker Community, exclusively on Network Packet Broker, as this isn’t likely the end of the road towards innovation for VSS Monitoring.
