Saratoga Data Systems Wins Patent for High-speed Data Transfer on WANs
September 23, 2013
Saratoga Data Systems has received a patent relating to a new internet protocol which can accelerate data over Wide Area Networks (WANs) and other challenged internet protocol networks that cover longer distances and are characterized by high latency, high packet loss, high congestion, intermittency and corruption.
The company specializes in developing advanced network technology and its in-process patent applications include technologies for multi-path communication of various types, and advanced selective data compression.
The patent for Saratoga’s line of data transmission acceleration products is entitled “method and system for accelerating transmission of data between network devices.” The new line of products will extend the company’s patented Flume product that can reliably move data over challenged networks.
Greg Fairbank, CEO and president of Saratoga Data said, “Flume is our flagship product and has proven to accelerate data movement over some of the most challenged networking conditions in the world.”
“This patent is recognition of Saratoga’s continued investment in research and development to further enhance Flume’s capabilities in order to remain at the cutting edge of networking technology. The market interest and adoption in Flume validates the company’s success in becoming the technology leader in this arena,” Fairbank added.
Flume technology is capable of reliably conveying larger volumes of data at much greater speeds than compared to traditional TCP/IP based protocols such as FTP and SFTP. Also there is a 100 percent guarantee of data transfer with no loss in transmission. Flume is a software-only technology that can leverage existing TCP/IP networks.
Striving to solve problems related to the transfer of extreme data volumes, the Saratoga optimization platform provides the ability to manage huge data sizes, enhance performance of data processing applications and transfer data at high speeds.
In December, 2012, The Cloud Front Group announced that an assured data delivery mechanism was available for the Iridium satellite network via Saratoga Data Systems’ Flume network optimization product. Flume considerably increases Internet data throughput by efficiently sharing Internet bandwidth with conventional communication traffic.
